July 03 Games, Games, Games.Prey Demo
Have you ever heard of Prey? You know, the game about the charokee native american stuck on the reservation going nowhere? Then he suddenly gets abducted by aliens and has to save his girlfriend? No? Well, the game that has the cool tagline 'Earth's saviour doesn't want the job?' Not yet? Ok, the game that has been in development for 10 years and, unmong other things, boasts wall-walking and spherical gravity sections in its gameplay? Spirit-walking? Death-Walking?
Ah, now you remember. Good.
Well, you can now get the Demo for this awesome looking game on both PC (here, here, Here or, heck, HEREs a whole list of 'em) and Xbox 360, via the Xbox Live Marketplace (click here to view availability information[Ignore all the comments]).
I played through the demo last week, sortly after it first became available for the PC. It apparently the first 5 levels of the game, and in my opinion gives you a pretty good impression of what the rest of the game mgiht be like. One word of warning however, i'd recommed a PC with AT LEAST the follwing specs for a solid game performance:
Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz HT processor
1GByte (1024MBs) of RAM
nVidia Geforce 6800 with 128MB of memory
Harddrive with at least 1GB free space
And of course, a decent Screen and at least a 2.1 set of speakers or Headphones.
I'm running it on a P4 2.6GHz with 512MB and a 128MB ATI 9200SE graphics card and let me just say, it wasn't as pretty as it could have been. I could only get around 25fps at the pitiful resolution of 640 x 480. So, um, you need a decent PC before you can comment on the graphics in anyway.
With that aside, i have to say the demo was fun. Descusting at times, shocking at times, mind contorting at times as well. But it was worth it.
The gravity effects alone are worth at least a play through the demo. They have these things like gravity tracks on which you can be walking up onto the wall, then onto the ceiling, then down onto another wall in another room, then back onto normal ground again. Its quite difficult to fight on and you need a good sense of both direction and spacial awareness.
They also have a multitude of portals in the demo (and the game) where enemies come through at you. These portals can exist either as portals floating in mid-air or built into standing doors and gaps in small crates. You can see through these portals onto the other side as wel. Its really weird at one point in the demo where there is a portal, but i opens out about 3 feet away from you to your right. So you can see yourself through the portal. Cool huh?
Since i don't have a good PC (as you can probably tell) I'm planning on getting this game for Xbox 360. Asuming, of course, that my parents come round to my way of thinking on the matter.
Guitar Hero
Ah, Guitar Hero. Finally a game that lets you become a rock star. The hitch? its on PS2. Blah, i know.
Heres the official website.
The game has been out for a few months i think in the USA. It came over to the U.K. recently too. So, GAME (the shop) had the game hooked up to their PS2 demo kit in the store. Man, it was fun.
You actually have a full size guitar as the controller. There are 5 coloured buttons on the shaft where you press to indicate the different cords. Then theres a little panel that you flick on the main body of the guitar controller to indicate string hits. Its pretty cool, and if you have ever air-guitaired before you will get into it pretty quickly.
And well, if you've ever actually played on a guitar before you will get good pretty quickly.
Even though it is a PS2 game i would recommed you have a go. And if you HAVE a ps2 you should buy it. If not go HERE and post expressing your interest for an xbox or 360 version. Its already the most popular thread in the whole forum :) Keep pressuring them.
